Who a buzz cut suits
Anyone can wear one, but it shows more of your face. Strong brows, defined cheekbones and an even head shape are what people notice first. A flat spot at the back of the head also shows more at #0 to #2.
A longer guard like #4 softens all of that. It is the easiest way to try the look without going all the way.
Which guard to start with
- #4, 13 mm: soft, dense and forgiving. A good first buzz.
- #2, 6 mm: the classic look. The scalp shows faintly.
- #0 or #1: close to the skin. Bold, and fully shows your head shape.
Render two lengths on your photo and compare them side by side before you decide.

Making it look intentional
- Earrings and defined brows carry a lot more weight with very short hair.
- Keep the neckline and sides tidy. A quick clean-up every two to three weeks keeps the shape.
- Put sunscreen on your scalp. It has not seen the sun in a while.
Growing it out
At about half an inch a month, a #2 becomes an even crop in two to three months and a short pixie in four to six. Trims around the ears and neck make the in-between stages look planned.
